Like any other week, we were supposed to have a few rumours, mixed with a dash of probabilities and day – to – day news. However, Matt Anoa’i’s death has brought the professional wrestling world to a standstill. Any death in the industry is mourned by the fans and those involved in the business; however, the death of one of the nicest guys in the industry made it that much harder, to digest the unfortunate turn of events.
Roman Reigns reportedly taking time off to deal with the tragedy
Couple of weeks ago on RAW, Roman Reigns was written off TV, after being viciously attacked by Braun Strowman. Furthermore, Reigns did not appear on this week’s episode of RAW. While Roman is scheduled to appear on RAW next week, he was given time off after his brother’s passing.
Roman is not scheduled to work this weekend’s live events, and is expected to take time off after appearing on RAW next week. Roman is being brought back to hype his upcoming match with Strowman at Payback. However, it remains to be seen if WWE gives the Superstar time off next week, going into Payback.
Speaking of Roman Reigns and his brother, two weeks ago, Matt posted a video on Facebook, where he asked the fans to go easy on Reigns. ‘The Big Dog’ is one of the most polarising Superstars in WWE today, and has often found himself on the wrong end of the fans’ ire. Matt asked the fans to let Roman do his job, and understand that he does what WWE asks of him.
Hideo Itami confronts Bobby Roode
The Japanese sensation has had a torrid two years, with injuries defining his start – stop WWE career. On this week’s episode of NXT, Hideo Itami confronted the NXT Champion, Bobby Roode. Itami was sidelined for the major part of a year, thanks to a shoulder injury. However, the Japanese Superstar is now expected to feud with Roode for the title.
During the tapings, Itami defeated Roderick Strong in a number one contender’s match for the NXT title. The match will air on the May 3rd edition of NXT, with Itami defeating Strong using his Go To Sleep finisher.
Candice LeRae makes her NXT debut
As reported earlier, top independent talent Candice LeRae made her NXT debut during the recent set of tapings. Candice took part in a battle royal, to crown the new number one contender for Asuka’s NXT Women’s title. However, Candice was eventually eliminated by Billie Kay from the match.
Asuka interrupted the proceedings with three women left. The General Manager of NXT, William Regal then made a fatal four way match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago for the Women’s title. Ember Moon, Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot will face Asuka for the title.
Braun Strowman thanks The Big Show
Braun Strowman is currently in the midst of a monster push. From taking Roman Reigns out to confronting Brock Lesnar, Strowman is touted to become the next big Superstar in the company. This week on RAW, Strowman was given the night off. However, the behemoth found himself in a match with The Big Show in the main event.
Both the colossal figures re – enacted the infamous Lesnar – Big Show spot, with Strowman bringing Show down with a Superplex! The ring gave way, with the referee getting hurled to the floor. On Instagram after RAW, Strowman broke character, and thanked The Big Show for giving him a moment that he would never forget.
