WWE goes to Saudi Arabia, with an event dubbed the Greatest Royal Rumble. True to that statement, the company will put on the greatest battle royal ever, with fifty WWE Superstars vying to win the match.
While the implications itself aren’t great, this will give the WWE Superstars the opportunity to showcase their talent, and climb out of the mediocrity that has engorged a large portion of the talent pool.
With the event coming up in a week’s time, we take a look at the five things to look forward to, during the WWE Greatest Royal Rumble.
#5 Brock Lesnar’s status with the WWE
Few weeks ago, there were rumors making rounds that Lesnar was close to returning to the UFC. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion is still under contract with the promotion, and is expected to fight again sometime this year.
Lesnar is currently serving a suspension, but would be eligible to fight again once he enters the USADA testing pool. With Lesnar signing a new WWE contract, it will be interesting to see what WWE does with Brock in Saudi Arabia.
If Reigns somehow wins the Universal Championship, it would give us a clear indication as to what Lesnar’s future looks like in the company. If Brock is interested in returning to the UFC, and start training for the same, he would have to drop the Universal title soon.
#4 Backlash match between Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns
Reigns, who will face Lesnar inside a steel cage, could actually wind up winning the Universal Championship. Samoa Joe made his return on the RAW after Mania, and challenged Reigns to a match at Backlash.
If Roman wins the Universal title, he will defend the championship against Joe. While The Samoan Submission Machine did not compete at WrestleMania, he was expected to get a push upon his return, which could see him face Reigns for the Universal Championship.
The title match between Roman and Lesnar would arguably decide the next few months for the two Superstars, and Samoa Joe.
#3 Future of Shinsuke Nakamura
At WrestleMania, Nakamura turned heel by attacking AJ Styles. He decided to take things a step further by attacking the WWE Champion, and Daniel Bryan on the edition of SmackDown Live following WrestleMania.
It will be interesting to see where Nakamura ends up after his program with AJ Styles. With both the Superstars staying put on SmackDown Live post the Superstar shake – up, it will be indeed intriguing to see if WWE carries on with the feud, or if the powers that be would introduce a third component, say, Daniel Bryan into the mix.
#2 Rey Mysterio returning at the Greatest Royal Rumble?
Before WrestleMania happened, there were rumors about Rey Mysterio signing with the WWE. While Rey was scheduled to appear during the NJPW event, he was pulled from the card for reportedly getting injured.
The rumors are now back once again, and WWE has been the culprit for fanning the flames.
On the Greatest Royal Rumble promotional poster, Rey Mysterio could be seen advertised for the show, along with the likes of The Undertaker, Triple H, Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan. Could this mean the masked Superstar will be returning to the company for either a one – off appearance, or work a lighter schedule? That remains to be seen.
#1 Future of The Undertaker
The Undertaker was expected to retire from WWE after WrestleMania 33. However, the old gunslinger returned at WrestleMania 34, and is currently being advertised to face Rusev in a Casket Match in Saudi Arabia.
It is now being rumored that The Undertaker would be asked to work about 3 – 4 matches this year, with WWE wanting The Phenom to be more active leading up to his final match at WrestleMania 35. Depending on how his match goes against Rusev, both the Superstars may be put in a program going forward, with The Undertaker facing Rusev a few months down the line.
