Watch: Wicketkeeper makes horrendous error with 3 runs required from last ball

We are only three days into 2018 and we have a contender for the year’s most bizarre moment on the cricket field.

With three runs required off the final ball for Sydney Sixers, Sarah Aley pounced on a full length delivery from Amy Satterthwaite but only managed an inside edge to fine-leg. They could complete just one run before the ball was returned to the striker’s end and the Melbourne Renegades players started celebrating. But it was premature.

Wicketkeeper Emma Ingils had received the ball from fine-leg but forgot to take off the bails to end the play. Taking note of the situation, Aley asked her partner Angela Reakes to run for the second. The Renegades players were late to realise what was happening and failed to runout the batter. The second run was added and the scores were level!

Here is that moment!

Fortunately for the Renegades (and Emma Ingils), the Melbourne outfit managed to seal the win in the super over after restricting the Sydney Sixers to just eight runs.
