Another run-chase, another masterclass.
Every time Virat Kohli pads up and walks out to bat in a run-chase, you expect the eventual scorecard to have a three-figure number against his name, leading India to victory. The story followed suit in Durban. The skipper scored his 33rd ODI century on Thursday and led his side to victory in the first ODI against South Africa.
The home side posted 269 runs after electing to bat, courtesy of Faf du Plessis’ single-handed effort. The wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal finished with combined figures of 5/79 in 20 overs. India’s openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were dismissed after getting starts, but the Indian skipper and the new #4 Ajinkya Rahane engineered a 189-run partnership which ended all hopes of a South African victory.
