Shikhar Dhawan continued his fantastic form in the Sri Lanka tour, this time, smashing an unbeaten 132 and powering India to a comfortable 9-wicket win in the first ODI at Dambulla.
After a promising start to the innings on being asked to bat by Virat Kohli, the hosts suffered a massive collapse, from 139/1 to 216 all out. Niroshan Dickwella’s half-century at the top was the only notable contribution from the home side, with Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews not converting their starts into big scores.
The only wicket India lost in their run-chase, Rohit Sharma, was due to a bizarre run out. Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli formed a massive 197-run partnership and the away side reached the target comfortably with 21 overs to spare. Kohli added to his impressive aggregate in run chases, as Dhawan went on to register his 11th ODI hundred. He brought up the three-figure mark in 71 balls, his fastest ODI hundred, hitting 20 boundaries and three sixes in the process.
