India dominated proceedings on Day 1 of the second Test against Sri Lanka, finishing on 344/3 at Stumps in Colombo.
Virat Kohli won a very important toss, considering the assistance the wicket would be offering the spinners going ahead in the Test, and opted to bat first. After an early flurry from Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul announced his return to the side scoring his eighth half-century. A mix-up with Cheteshwar Pujara resulted in his run out, bringing the skipper in the crease. Kohli looked very comfortable in the middle, but a quicker delivery from Rangana Herath took the outside edge and a superb reflex catch by Angelo Mathews ended his knock. From that point onwards, the away side controlled the game as Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane strung together an unbeaten 211-run stand.
