AS Monaco and Juventus joined Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League, after going through in their respective quarter-final ties against Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.
Monaco reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2004, producing a clinical performance at home to win the match 3-1, and the tie 6-3 on aggregate. In-form teenager Kylian Mbappe scored after 3 minutes to consolidate Monaco’s position, and Falcao scored 14 minutes later to put the tie beyond any doubt.
Dortmund came back into the game through a Marco Reus goal after Ousmane Dembele brilliantly set him up, but as Dortmund put more players up the pitch looking for a goal, their vulnerability at the back cost them when Valere Germain scored on the counter. Watch the goals from the match below!
Juventus, on the other hand, relied on good old Italian defensive organisation to completely stifle Barcelona’s attacking trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar. Already trailing 3-0 from the first leg, Barcelona were chasing the game to begin with. However, Massimiliano Allegri set his team up perfectly to foil any Barca attack, with the hosts also frustrated by missing a couple of golden opportunities to sneak their way back into the game.
