Manjot Kalra stole the headlines on Saturday as he went on to score a magnificent century to lead India to their fourth U19 World Cup title.
Despite 216 being a below par score, the Indian batsmen had to ensure that they had a good start to put pressure on the bowlers. There were more than a few outside edge misses in the first 10 overs but openers Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra hung on. After settling in, the duo started playing their strokes and added 71 runs for the first wicket. The skipper’s dismissal did not deter the southpaw as he continued to capitalise on the loose balls. He found an able partner in Harvik Desai, who walked in after the wicket of Shubman Gill and guided India to the total in just 39 overs. Manjot brought up his century just three balls before Harvik smashed home the winning runs.
