When it comes to T20Is, Windies are a different side compared to their Test and ODI teams. The big stars from franchise T20 cricket – Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Carlos Brathwaite make them a formidable unit, capable of winning World titles like they did in 2016. So when India met the Caribbean side for the one-off T20 contest at Kingston, they were expecting a tough competition. At the end, it wasn’t just tough, the competition blew them away.
It was Evin Lewis, again, that thrashed the Indian bowlers around the ground and led his side to a comfortable 9-wicket win on Sunday. The southpaw’s impressive stroke play was privy to Virat Kohli and his men, when he produced a similar knock in Florida last year.
He scored an unbeaten 125 this time around, off just 62 balls, which included six boundaries and 12 sixes. The 25-year-old became the third batsman in T20I to register multiple centuries, Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum being the other two. His knock is also now the highest score by a batsman in T20Is in a run-chase, and the third highest overall.
Windies reached the 191-run total with nine balls to spare, giving us a reminder of why they are T20 champions.
