Towards the end of 1989, a young but strong looking lad debuted for Pakistan, and went on to become one of the most dangerous bowlers of all time! Batsmen trembled as they faced Waqar, and fast bowlers all around the world wanted to be able to land yorkers the way he did.
It is said that even today, in the age of T20 cricket, one of the best balls that can be bowled to any batsman is the yorker. A well bowled yorker can uproot the stumps of any batsman and help bowlers control the game, especially in the death overs. Waqar Younis showed the world how bowling yorker-length deliveries consistently could be the key to a fast bowler’s success in the game. His strengths were pace and swing and with these two as his allies, he brought the ball in to right-handers, and kept knocking their stumps over with incredible ease!
