Indian captain Virat Kohli has been rested for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, the BCCI announced on Monday (November 27).
However, the 29-year-old will be available for the final Test against Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. The last time Virat Kohli did not feature in the national side was in the final Test against Australia in Dharamsala due to a shoulder injury he sustained in the previous Test. In his absence, limited overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma will lead the side – his first captaincy stint at international level.
Shikhar Dhawan returns to the Test side after being granted leave due to personal reasons for the Nagpur Test and is also a part of the ODI squad. His replacement Murali Vijay scored a century on comeback, which could possibly result in KL Rahul being dropped from the playing XI in Delhi. Mohammed Shami, who did not featured in the second Test due to a niggle, retains his spot in the squad along with all-rounder Vijay Shankar.
Punjab pacer Sidharth Kaul has received a call-up to the ODI side. The 27-year-old featured in two one-day games for India A against New Zealand A recently and bagged a couple of three-wicket hauls. Shreyas Iyer, who featured in the T20I series against New Zealand, has also been picked for the three ODIs.
The final Test between India and Sri Lanka will start on Wednesday (December 2), followed by the ODIs to be played on December 10 (Dharamsala), December 13 (Mohali) and December 17 (Visakhapatnam).
