The Victory Lap Of 2006 in West Indies

India win in West Indies 2006

India visits West Indies to kick off another long test-season under a young captain and new coach! Anil Kumble will travel to the West Indies with fond memories of another Test that took place ten years ago.

Following the ODI series in which India were beaten 4-1, India were under pressure to put up a better show in the Test series. Coming into the 4th test, the last of the series; India found themselves playing on an extremely tough pitch. Balls kept low, some took off from a good length, and both teams had a bowling attack capable of exploiting the conditions. The result- only 4 scores of fifty or more in all four innings; with two of them belonging to Rahul Dravid. In Brian Lara’s own words-  “I don’t think I have seen a better innings, or two innings put together, on such a surface”.

Dravid made sure India had just enough runs on the board to make sure the match would witness an exciting finish. While West Indies did its best to chase the target, it was a bit too much for them on the day. India’s biggest match winner Anil Kumble turned on his magic with notable support from Sreesanth to script a historic series win for India in West Indies after a gap of 35 years!
