According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Sri Lanka will play India once again this year in November-December, with India hosting the islanders on this occasion. They are expected to play three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I on the tour.
However, Sri Lanka’s tour of India could have an impact on India’s tour of South Africa, which is also scheduled for December. The dates for both the series have not been announced yet. A BCCI official confirmed the development to ESPNCricinfo, while remaining non-committal on the dates for India’s tour of South Africa. With the schedule for the tour to be confirmed next week, it is a matter of time before it is known whether India will be playing a boxing day Test against the Proteas this year – something which Cricket South Africa are reportedly keen on.
Currently, India are in Sri Lanka to play three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I. The tour will wrap up on September 6, post which Sri Lanka will travel to the UAE to play two Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is against Pakistan in September and October. With the India tour possibly after that, the Lankans are in for a long season of cricket ahead.
Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva said, “The Sri Lanka tour to India has been brought forward from February next year because we are hosting the tri-nation Independence Cup during that period. Sri Lanka was due to tour India from February end to the first week of April next year and the dates would have clashed with the Independence Cup. That’s why we requested the Indian board for a change to bring the tour forward and they have agreed. The dates for the Pakistan series and the Indian tour are currently being worked out.”
