The biggest news in the past 24 hours is something that is straight out of a fairy tale. For the past two years, Daniel Bryan has been lobbying for WWE to get him evaluated again, so that he could return to in – ring competition. Just when all hope seemed lost, WWE broke the news that Bryan had been medically cleared to compete in the WWE, and the fans waited with baited breath to see what the bearded Superstar would say on SmackDown Live.
Then there is the small event on the horizon, which is WrestleMania! AJ Styles suffered an injury scare last weekend, and underwent tests this week. Will the Phenomenal One be able to make it to WrestleMania?
Also, the three – way dance between Jinder Mahal, Bobby Roode and Randy Orton has led to all the three Superstars trying to one up each other heading into WrestleMania. So what would happen this week in the land of opportunities?
Last but not least, Owens and Zayn put Shane through the ringer last week, assaulting the Commissioner of SmackDown Live. Will there be any repercussions for the duo? What will Daniel Bryan do?
We found the questions to all these and more on this week’s show.
Daniel Bryan grateful for support; declares he’s ready to compete
This week’s show could’ve been kicked off by only one Superstar, and Daniel Bryan didn’t waste any time getting into the thick of things. Bryan delivered an emotionally charged promo, recounting the hardships he has been through over the past three years, and how he had to come to terms with his retirement. Bryan said he never stopped fighting, and thanked his wife for her support.
Bryan then teased wrestling soon, as the fans chanted for him to return at WrestleMania. The General Manager of SmackDown Live then stated that he would address everything in time, and had to hold back tears while talking about returning to in – ring competition.
Rusev faced Shinsuke Nakamura with Aiden English in his corner, while the WWE Champion, AJ Styles was on commentary. The number one contender weathered the storm, and picked up the victory. English and Rusev then attacked Nakamura, as AJ watched from the commentary desk. Nakamura then cleaned house and stood tall to end the segment.
Baron Corbin and Tye Dillinger announced their entry in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania. Both the Superstars then squared off in the ring, with Corbin picking up the win.
Carmella almost cashes – in her contract
The SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair will face Asuka at WrestleMania, but on this week’s show, she faced Natalya in a non – title match.
Charlotte and Natalya went back and forth, as both women proved their resilience. The champion had the advantage, only for Natalya to turn the tables with a superplex! That was when Carmella ran out with a referee, ready to cash – in her contract.
However, Charlotte recovered in time to drop Carmella with a big boot, a few seconds before the referee called for the bell. Natalya took advantage of the distraction and rolled up Charlotte to pick up the win.
The Usos made their way out, and cut a promo about The Bludgeon Brothers, and how they would take them to the Uso Penitentiary at WrestleMania. The Bludgeon Brothers then made their way out, with Jimmy facing Harper. While Rowan’s distraction led to Jey getting involved, Harper picked up the win.
Jinder Mahal talks about being added to the United States Championship match
The former WWE Champion made his way out along with Sunil Singh, and cut a promo about facing Roode and Orton at WrestleMania for the WWE United States Championship. Mahal gloated about the opportunity, before being interrupted by the former United States Champion, Bobby Roode.
Roode told Mahal that he would beat him at WrestleMania to win back the United States title. Randy Orton then made an appearance, and told Jinder that without Sunil Singh by his side, he wouldn’t amount to much.
Mahal then left the ring, but not before throwing Sunil Singh into the deep end. Orton dropped Sunil with the draping DDT and set himself up for the RKO, but Roode dropped Sunil with the Glorious DDT. Roode then went for the Glorious DDT on Orton, but Orton tried to reverse it into an RKO, as both men stared each other down.
Becky Lynch and Naomi faced Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan. The heels had the upper hand for the majority of the bout, only for the faces to rally late on, and pick up the win.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn sent Daniel Bryan back to a medical facility
Daniel Bryan’s day went from great to worse really fast, as he had to confront Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn about what transpired last week. Owens and Zayn tried to kiss up to Bryan, but Daniel brought up their attack last week, and wondered why they did what they did. Daniel told the duo that he would’ve been there for them, and said Shane finally confessed to mistreating them.
Bryan wondered why, even after Shane said he’d leave SmackDown Live temporarily, Owens and Sami would ruthlessly attack him. Daniel also brought up their proposed match at WrestleMania, and said he had no other choice but to fire them. Bryan told the duo that it wasn’t the end, but it was the end for now.
Owens and Sami then attacked the General Manager, who retaliated by putting up a fight. However, the numbers game caught up to Bryan, and Sami connected with the Helluva Kick. Owens then powerbombed Bryan onto the apron, leaving him in a heap as SmackDown Live came to a close!
