India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja could miss out the first Test against South Africa in Cape Town after he was taken to the hospital suffering from viral illness on Wednesday (January 3).
“The BCCI Medical Team in consultation with the local medical team has decided that Mr. Jadeja will be taken to a hospital for treatment and expects him to fully recover in the next 48 hrs. A decision on his availability for selection for the opening Test against South Africa will be taken on the morning of the match i.e. 5th January 2018,” states the BCCI release.
There were also concerns regarding Shikhar Dhawan’s availability after he suffered an ankle injury before leaving for South Africa, in which case KL Rahul would partner Murali Vijay in the opening positions. But the southpaw is fit to play at Newlands.
“Dhawan is fine and there is no discomfort as he hit the nets today. You can see he is moving freely. But a final call on the playing XI isn’t something that I can talk about. That is for the coach and captain to decide,” a member from the team management is quoted by CricketNext.
