Rohit Sharma smashes joint fastest T20 International century & other statistical highlights from India’s 260/5 against Sri Lanka

India smashed 260 for five against Sri Lanka in the second T20 International at Indore. Rohit Sharma hit a belligerent 118 and KL Rahul smashed 89 to guide India to the joint second highest score in T20 Internationals. Along the way, there were numerous records that came their way, which included the joint-fastest T20 International century among others:

  • Rohit now has the joint-fastest century in T20 Internationals, equalling David Miller’s record of a 35-ball century against Bangladesh earlier this year.
  • Rohit also has the fastest century in overall T20 cricket by an Indian, beating Yusuf Pathan, who achieved a 37-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2010.
  • Rohit hit eight sixes during his knock, the most by an Indian in a T20 International innings. Yuvraj Singh was the previous record holder, when he hit seven sixes during that famous game against England at Durban during the ICC World T20 2007 and against Pakistan at Ahmedabad in 2012.
  • Rohit became the fourth captain to score a T20 International century. Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis and Tillakaratne Dilshan are the other three who have recorded this feat.
  • Rohit has taken his tally of sixes in international cricket in 2017 to 64. Ewin Lewis is next in the list, having hit 45 across formats. Hardik Pandya is third with 43 followed by Virat Kohli with 36.
  • The 165-run partnership between Rohit and KL Rahul is now the highest for India in T20 Internationals for any wicket. The previous best was between Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan, who put up 158 against New Zealand at Delhi earlier this year.
  • The 165-run stand is the fourth highest partnership for any wicket in T20 Internationals and the third highest for the first wicket.
  • Rohit has become the fifth batsman to score two T20 International centuries. Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro and Ewin Lewis are the others.
  • This is India’s highest score in T20 Internationals – beating their previous best of 244 for four against West Indies at Lauderhill in 2016. This is the joint second highest team score in T20 Internationals — 260 for five.
  • Indian batsmen hit 21 sixes – the most in a completed T20 International innings by a team. They jointly hold the record with West Indies, who hit 21 sixes against India at Lauderhill in 2016.
  • Nuwan Pradeep’s spell of two for 61 is the most expensive against India in T20 Internationals. Stuart Broad previously held this unwanted distinction when he conceded 60 at Durban in 2007.
