Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has been pulled up by the match referee for his reaction to being given LBW in Sunday’s thrilling encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.
The 29-year-old was adjudged LBW in the 10th over of the run-chase, and he made his feelings known while walking back to the pavilion. Replays suggest that Sharma had got a thick inside edge before the ball struck the pad.
The official statement from the IPL said, “Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians captain, was reprimanded by the match referee for showing excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire’s decision during his team’s contest against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.”
“Mr Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials.”
“For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
Rohit Sharma is the second player that has been charged with a Level 1 offence, after MS Dhoni was pulled up for showing the ‘DRS signal’ in Rising Pune Supergiant’s victory over the Mumbai Indians.
