Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed as ‘Batting Consultant for overseas Test tours’, the BCCI announced on Tuesday (July 11).

The 44-year-old will act as a mentor for the Indian batsmen during overseas tours, along with fulfilling his duties as India A and India U-19 coach.

“As the Indian team is to play Test cricket overseas in the next two years, Rahul Dravid’s expertise as batting consultant will be immensely helpful for youngsters.” Acting Honorary Secretary Amitabh Choudhary was quoted in the press release by BCCI.

Along with him, former India pace bowler Zaheer Khan is also set to be a part of the mix, being appointed as a ‘Bowling Consultant’. The 38-year-old announced his retirement from international cricket in 2015, but has featured for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.

“Mr. Khan is a contemporary cricketer who assumed the mentoring role to a young fast bowling unit even during his playing days with India. His inputs will be of immense value to our young fast bowlers, who have shown tremendous potential in the last couple of years.” said Amitabh Choudhary.
