PV Sindhu, who was just one victory away from guaranteeing a bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Championships crashed out of the tournament with a loss to He Bingjiao of China. Sindhu lost 21-15, 14-21, 22-24 to Bingjiao in the last 8 match in surprising fashion, after comfortably winning the first set by 6 points.
With Sindhu’s loss, India’s hopes of a medal at the BAC are over, with Ajay Jayaram also losing to Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Jen Hao in his second match of the tournament earlier.
After a dominant first set, Sindhu was put under pressure by Bingjiao when she rushed to a 11-7 lead in the second set. Sindhu could not recover from this position and won as many points in the second half of the set as she did in the first, going down 14-21.
In the decider, Sindhu made it 12-12 after being 7-9 down, and both players went point-for-point from there. The score read 20-20 after a few rallies, then 21-21, but after saving two match points, Sindhu could not avoid defeat as Bingjiao kept her cool and won the decisive point in her third attempt.
