In the run up to the T20 World Cup, the importance of this India vs Sri Lanka series is quite high from both teams’ perspectives. They will have different objectives though – India will look to keep winning whereas Sri Lanka will look to rebuild its side. India, riding high on confidence after beating Australia will be keen to retain their top T20 ranking by beating a young and unsettled Sri Lankan side as the two Asian giants go head to head at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
India: M.S.Dhoni and Co. will look at how they fare without their talismanic batsman Virat Kohli who has been rested before the Asia Cup and World T20. They would also probably look to give players such as Harbhajan Singh and Ajinkya Rahane a go since they have been on the bench in Australia. Dhoni would also probably look to test Pawan Negi who has been picked for the T20 World Cup.
Probable XI : 1.R.Sharma, 2.S.Dhawan, 3.S.Raina, 4.A.Rahane, 5.M.S.Dhoni, 6.Y.Singh, 7.H.Pandya 8.R.Jadeja 9.R.Ashwin, 10.A.Nehra, 11.J.Bumrah
Sri Lanka: A team that’s been plagued with injuries and has thus brought in a lot of new faces in their squad. Dinesh Chandimal will captain the Lankan lions in the absence of Lasith Malinga and will look to try and perfect an ideal combination going into the Asia Cup and the World T20. Dilhara Fernando and Seekkuge Prasanna are also back in the fold. With Dilshan being ruled out for the first T20 as well, it is surely going to be an uphill task for this young side to overcome their well settled opposition.
Probable XI: 1.N.Dickwella, 2.D.Gunathilaka, 3.D.Chandimal , 4.D.Shanaka, 5.C.Kapugedera, 6. T.Perera, 7.M.Siriwardana, 8.D.Fernando, 9.S.Prasanna, 10.S.Senanayake, 11.S.Eranga
Venue & Conditions: The MCA Stadium in Pune is known to be full of runs generally and there shouldn’t be much of dew around. The weather is expected to be clear and the team batting second should be able to chase down anything around 160-170 without much trouble.
