When students in West Bengal walked into their examination hall during the ongoing class X board exams for their English paper, the last thing they were expecting was a question on Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. However, that’s exactly what happened, when they came across a compulsory question for 10 marks which entailed writing a short profile on the cricketer based on some points given.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Shreya Ghoshal, a student of Midnapore Mission Girls School in West Midnapore district said, “It was a compulsory question (of 10 marks). We had to write a short profile based on the points mentioned in the question paper. But Kohli is so popular that even if points were not given, many could have written pages.”
Another student, Shamim Akhtar of Nabipur Saralabala High School in Murshidabad spoke of his delight in answering the question. “We wrote the answer with delight as we never expected a question like this. He is my idol,” he said excitedly.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla, former India player and currently a Trinamool Congress Legislator in the assembly spoke about how it was a good initiative to include Kohli in the paper. “Besides being an icon, Kohli’s life is about dedication, hard work and discipline, which can be an example for students,” he said. “I appreciate the gesture and I hope in future there will be questions on sporting icons not only in Madhyamik but other board examinations as well.”
Well, even when Kohli is not playing, he’s never too far from being of national relevance in one way or the other!
