Mike Bennett and Maria are reportedly on their way to SmackDown Live
The past couple of months have seen top talents from Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling jump ships to WWE. From the likes of Kassius Ohno to Drew McIntyre, top independent talents have signed up with the promotion. With Impact Wrestling letting go of Matt and Jeff Hardy, the former ‘Brother Nero’ and ‘Broken Matt’ showed up at WrestleMania.
Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis reportedly on the verge of signing with WWE
If reports are to be believed, WWE is on the verge of snapping up more talents from Impact Wrestling. ‘The First Lady of Professional Wrestling’, Maria Kanellis along with her husband, Mike Bennett are no longer with Impact Wrestling. This has led to WWE reportedly offering the couple WWE contracts, to work on SmackDown Live.
Maria Kanellis is a former WWE Diva, and came fifth during the 2004 edition of RAW Diva Search. Maria also won the Slammy Award for ‘Diva of the Year’ in 2009, and was let go in 2010. Since then, Maria worked for ROH, NJPW and other top independent promotions.
Mike Bennett too has worked for numerous top independent promotions, and won the tag team titles in ROH and NJPW. While working for Impact Wrestling, Bennett won the X Division title, and was considered a hot property. However, a change in management saw Bennett and Maria parting ways with the promotion.
It was then revealed that Impact Wrestling also offered the duo new contracts, but the offer from WWE was too hard to resist.
Maria has managed a host of Superstars, including Ziggler and Santino Marella during her time with WWE. There are conflicting reports about the duo already signing with the company, but it is being speculated that they will debut soon.
An alarming trend of talents leaving Impact Wrestling for WWE
Maria is also a former TNA Knockouts Champion, and has improved by leaps and bounds since her departure from WWE. Bennett brings a different dimension to the SmackDown Live product, and can prove to be a successful acquisition.
This is the continuation of an alarming trend, with the exodus of Impact Wrestling stars to WWE. Impact Wrestling needs to hold on to their top talent, but with WWE aggressively expanding their roster, that can prove to be difficult.
