Major talking points of the week – Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in trouble, John Cena, Survivor Series, more

WWE announced the return of John Cena at Survivor Series

The wheels keep on turning, and the road to Survivor Series is reaching its penultimate turn. In just over a week’s time, the WWE Superstars will be involved in brand wars, in a bid to prove their superiority.

The most talked about match on the card is between the Universal Champion and the WWE Champion. Jinder Mahal initially threw out the challenge to Brock Lesnar, as ‘The Maharaja’ tried to  validate his title reign. However, Jinder had to defend the WWE Championship before we can get to Survivor Series this week.

Also, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been the despicable duo on SmackDown Live, but the pair were unceremoniously booted from the United Kingdom. Here are all the major talking points of the week.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn reportedly land in hot water

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have reportedly landed themselves in hot water

One of the biggest stories going around is about the former Universal Champion, and his best friend. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were in Manchester, England this week for the SmackDown Live taping. Sami lost to Kofi Kingston, and the duo were sent packing, when Owens tried to attack the member of the New Day faction.

However, reports soon started making rounds that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were sent home from the United Kingdom. The pair left for North America amidst reports of unrest, and major outlets started reporting about Owens and Zayn looking after themselves on SmackDown.

Zayn and Owens reportedly ignored the part, where they were supposed to “feed” to the trio heading into Survivor Series. Instead, Owens and Zayn made their way to the back, and inside sources revealed that Owens was having some issues with the talent backstage. This comes on the back of Neville and Austin Aries leaving the company, and we have to wait and see what happens to the duo.

John Cena announced as the fifth member of Team SmackDown Live

John Cena joins Team SmackDown at Survivor Series

With Team RAW acquiring the services of Strowman, Balor and Samoa Joe, the blue brand had to step up and bring in their reinforcements. Orton, Nakamura, Roode and Shane were confirmed to be on Team SmackDown, but the WWE website revealed the fifth member couple of days ago.

John Cena, who jumped to RAW to face Roman Reigns, was named as the final member of Team SmackDown! The Leader of CeNation took time off after his loss to Reigns, but will return to action at Survivor Series.

There are disgruntled Superstars, who have taken shots at WWE’s decision to bring in Cena. Rusev for one, who lost the opportunity to secure the final berth earlier this week, directed his ire at John.

Changes made to the Survivor Series card

The RAW Tag Team titles changed hands this week, when Cesaro and Sheamus defeated Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. This was after New Day interfered during the main event, distracting the champions. The Shield is now expected to face New Day in a six man tag team match at Survivor Series, and the match will likely be finalised during the final episode of RAW before the PPV.

Charlotte Flair will face Natalya next week on SmackDown Live for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Natalya was originally expected to face Alexa Bliss at SS, but if ‘The Queen’ manages to dethrone ‘The Queen of Harts’, Charlotte will replace Natalya at Survivor Series, and will take on the RAW Women’s Champion.

AJ Styles turns the WWE upside down, wins WWE Championship

Something monumental happened this week on the blue brand. Jinder Mahal put his WWE Championship on the line against AJ Styles, with the winner facing Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series. As it turned out, Mahal’s worst fears came true, as ‘The Phenomenal One’ defeated the Maharaja to become the new WWE Champion!

AJ will now face Lesnar at the PPV, and it is being reported that Heyman was the one that pushed for Styles to defeat Mahal. Heyman wanted the fairytale match between Lesnar and Styles to come to fruition, and lobbied for the ‘The Champ That Runs The Camp’ to win the prestigious title heading into Survivor Series.

Dana Brooke, Bayley and Mickie James vie for the final spot

The women’s RAW team welcomed their fourth member this week, with Captain Fox handpicking Sasha Banks. Sasha and Bayley teamed up to defeat Fox and Nia Jax, and after the match, Fox surprised the WWE Universe by admitting that she needed Banks on the team. This now leaves one last spot vacant, and three Superstars will be vying to fill the vacancy.

Next week on RAW, Bayley, Dana Brooke and Mickie James will compete in a triple threat match, with the winner joining Team RAW at Survivor Series. The RAW team currently consists of Fox, Nia Jax, Asuka and Sasha Banks.
