When Ravichandran Ashwin was picked up by Kings XI Punjab at the IPL Auction in January for Rs. 7.6 crores, the team’s fans were excited to watch the experienced off-spinner in their colours. Earlier today, the 31-year old was announced as the captain of the team which also boasts of seasoned players like Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and David Miller.
Ashwin has played for two franchises before this season, 8 years with Chennai Super Kings and 2 years with Rising Pune Supergiants but has never captained an IPL team. He does have some captaincy experience by virtue of having led his state side – Tamil Nadu in the past. KXIP and its fans will hope that the offie can turn the team’s fortunes around and lead them to their maiden IPL title in 2018.
