IPL Rewind: When Kieron Pollard protested in ‘silence’ (2015)

Kieron Pollard is one of the most entertaining characters on the cricket field – be it with bat, ball or with his superhuman efforts at the boundary. The big West Indian showed that he had a sense of humour as well, in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2015.

Mumbai Indians had set a stiff target of 210 for the Bangalore franchise on the day. Chris Gayle was batting at one end, and Pollard was in constant chatter with the Jamaican. The umpires were not happy with the all-rounder trying to get under Gayle’s skin and Pollard seemed to be displeased with the warning he was given.

Pollard’s response – he ran to the dug out and came back with a piece of tape over his mouth! Anytime he wanted to have a chat with his teammates, he used to peel off the tape and put it back on. Everyone at the ground – commentators, Mumbai players, the dugouts and the crowd were left laughing at Pollard’s antics.

Mumbai eventually won the game by 18 runs, and Kieron Pollard’s protest will be remembered as one of the most hilarious moments ever in IPL history.

After the incident, Pollard took to Twitter to clarify that it was all in good humour and meant no disrespect to anyone.
