Certain IPL players who are a part of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association have registered their names for the Tamil Nadu Premier League draft, which is scheduled to be held in June this year.
Players like Robin Bist, Ankit Bawne and Piyush Chawla have all signed up for the draft. While Bawne made his debut for Delhi Daredevils in the recently concluded season of the IPL, Chawla has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup for a number of years. According to a report in cricbuzz.com, Kerala fast bowler Basil Thampi will also register for the draft in three days’ time. Thampi won the emerging player of the year trophy in IPL season 10, claiming 11 wickets in 12 matches for the Gujarat Lions.
The BCCI had not granted permission to TNCA registered outstation players to play in the inaugural edition of the TNPL last year, but has relaxed the rules for the next edition. A TNCA source said, “Chawla, Bawne and Bist have filled their forms for the draft. Thampi is eager to take part in the competition and is on a high after his good show in the IPL. He is expected to register later this week.”
Indian team all-rounder Jayant Yadav, who played for Jolly Rovers in the TNCA first division league is, however, unlikely to register for the TNPL draft. There is also no clarity yet on whether Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya will be available for the draft.
