IPL Rewind: Gayle rewrites history at the Chinnaswamy Stadium (2013)

On 23rd April 2013, Chris Gayle scored the fastest century and the highest score in T20s, smashing a world-record 175 off just 66 balls against Pune Warriors at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Twenty20 cricket batting often leads one to think of big hits and powerful shots. In that respect, not many batsmen come close to how well Chris Gayle hits the cricket ball. The big man from Jamaica has played a lot of impactful innings for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, but none better than the knock of 175 against the Pune Warriors. Scoring a hundred in just 30 deliveries – the quickest one in T20 cricket, Gayle rewrote history.

Gayle was in top gear right from the start as he annihilated the Pune bowling attack. He also sent a couple of balls sailing over the roof of the Chinnaswamy Stadium in the course of the historic innings. He eventually went on to score an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls and propelled Bangalore’s total to 263 runs. Gayle has a tendency to have a heavy impact on any opposition he plays against purely because he dominates completely.

Take a look at how he went on to score the fastest IPL hundred:
