The tenth edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to commence on the 5th of April and building up to the tournament, The Ring Side View takes a look back at the best moments from the years gone by. Over the years, some of the best batsmen to have graced the game have played some scintillating innings. Here’s a list of the IPL’s Top 5 hundreds:
Brendon McCullum (Kolkata Knight Riders): The innings that kicked off the IPL in 2008 and still ranks high up on the list of the best innings played in the history of the tournament is Brendon McCullum’s knock of 158 off 73 against the Royal Challengers. With the black and gold colours of the Knight Riders, McCullum looked absolutely majestic as he smashed around bowlers like Zaheer Khan and Jacques Kallis.
Chris Gayle (Royal Challengers Bangalore): Perhaps the first name that comes to mind when you think about hundreds in the IPL is of Christopher Henry Gayle. After being acquired by the Royal Challengers in 2010, he has been invaluable to their side at the top of the batting order. His innings of 175 off 66 deliveries against the Pune Warriors in 2013 is the highest T20 score by an individual. The innings at the M.Chinnaswamy left everyone in awe of the big Jamaican who has been the biggest entertainer in the IPL.

Virender Sehwag (Kings XI Punjab): One of the world’s most destructive opening batsman of all time, Virender Sehwag took the game by the scruff of its neck when he demolished the Chennai Super Kings bowling attack. His innings of 122 runs off just 58 deliveries in a crucial playoff game is one that will be remembered for a very long time.

Murali Vijay (Chennai Super Kings): It was in 2010 when a relatively lesser known Murali Vijay scored a fantastic hundred against the Rajasthan Royals at the M.A.Chidambaram Stadium. Scoring 127 off just 56 deliveries, Vijay helped take his team’s total to a massive 246 runs. Rajasthan actually got close to chasing the total down, and the difference between the two sides clearly was Vijay’s innings.
