Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has signed a contract with Kolkata based ISL side ATK ahead of the upcoming season, in what is a massive boost to the team. Keane is among the biggest names to have signed for an ISL club, having played for clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Leeds United earlier in his career. He was most recently playing for MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.
Teddy Sheringham is ATK’s coach this season, and having played with Keane at Tottenham, is confident that the Irish striker will thrive in the Indian Super League. In a press release issued by ATK, Keane said, “At this stage of my career, the offer to experience a new league and culture in Asia appealed to me. To join the current Indian Super League champions is a great pleasure and through hard work I hope to bring the ATK fans more success and enjoyment over the course of the 2017/2018 season.”
Speaking about the transfer, ATK coach Teddy Sheringham said, “I am sure ATK’s striking abilities will be bolstered with Robbie in the side. I am sure the young Indian players we have selected from the domestic draft will learn from him about the way he goes about preparing for a major tournament like ISL.”
