On 23rd January 2016, Manish Pandey scored his maiden century in ODIs, hitting an unbeaten 104 off 81 balls to help India achieve a consolation win in the final ODI against Australia at the SCG.
Manish Pandey may have been sitting out for the ODIs versus England, but the year before, it was his maiden ODI century that saved India from a whitewash series loss against Australia. Chasing a target of 331 runs in the fifth ODI at Sydney, India were off to an excellent start courtesy Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. But losing Virat Kohli early and the rising required run-rate stacked the odds against India. MS Dhoni lost his wicket, trying to up the scoring rate and it was down to Pandey to take India home. Bringing up his hundred in style, Pandey finished the game off and saved India the embarrassment of a 0-5 loss.
