Ajinkya Rahane’s debut century at Lord’s

During the tour of England in 2014, India won the test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, their second victory ever at the ‘Home of Cricket’. Ishant Sharma was adjudged the Man of the Match for his impressive spell of 7 for 74 in the second innings to set up India’s win. But one of the most crucial moments of the game, was the gritty century by Ajinkya Rahane on the first day of the test on a sinister Lord’s greentop.

Rahane walked in to bat when the score was 86 for 3 and was dismissed 20 balls before the end of the day’s play, with the score at 275 for 9. His innings lasted 234 minutes, comprising  of 15 boundaries and a six, helping India get close to the 300 mark on Day 1.

Ajinkya Rahane became the 9th Indian batsman to get his name up on the honour’s board at Lord’s. He joined the likes of Vinoo Mankad, Dilip Vengsarkar, Gundappa Viswanath, Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar!
