Brendon McCullum will always be regarded as one of the biggest sporting icons in New Zealand. His aggressive approach, regardless of the format of the game, has garnered him admirers everywhere. He may have permanently removed his ‘Black Cap’, but he still travels the world doing what he does best – entertain.
In a feature for Lord’s Cricket Ground, the former New Zealand captain was asked to pick his All-Time XI. He selected Chris Gayle and Sachin Tendulkar as his openers. His middle order would boast of three time World Cup winner Ricky Ponting, and two of West Indies’ greatest batsmen, Brian Lara and Sir Viv Richards. Jacques Kallis would be #6, followed by wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist. Mitchell Johnson was picked as the third seamer and Shane Warne as the lone spinner. He selected his former teammates Trent Boult and Tim Southee to be his opening bowlers, with whom he had immense success as captain.
The criteria for selection is players they have played with, against or have been influenced by.
