An FIR was registered against Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami on Friday morning by Kolkata Police, based on multiple charges by his wife Hasin Jahan. The charges include attempt to murder and criminal intimidation. Shami’s brother and three other relatives have also had FIRs registered against them. The FIRs were registered after Jahan uploaded screenshots earlier in the week of Shami’s alleged Facebook messenger and Whatsapp conversations with multiple women, accusing him of adultery.
Jahan had also accused Shami and his relatives of trying to kill her. According to a report by NDTV, Jahan said, “Shami abused me and started beating me even after returning from South Africa. He has been doing this for quite some time now and now I have had enough. I gave him enough time (to rectify mistakes) and tried to calm myself down but instead of accepting his own mistakes, he used to vent his anger on me and even threaten me, asking to keep mum for my own goodwill.”
Following the allegations before the FIR was registered, Shami had tweeted the following:
I'm Mohammad Shami.
Ye jitna bhi news hamara personal life ke bare may chal raha hai, ye sab sarasar jhut hai, ye koi bahut bada humare khilap sajish hai or ye mujhe Badnam karne or mera game kharab karne ka kosis ki ja rahi hai.

According to The Indian Express, the Indian cricketer has been booked under the following sections of the Indian Penal Code – 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (Causing hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 506 (Criminal intimidation), 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
Shami has responded to the charges, saying, “All these accusations made against me are baseless. They have no meaning. She said that this has been happening for five years, the fact is that we have been married just for four years. According to me, this is a well thought out conspiracy against me. I want to remain just as normal as you’ve always seen me. On Holi and every other festival, I’ve been with my family. Spent time with my daughter and wife. Even after my wife was trolled so much in the past I stood by her. And I would like to stand by her today as well.” The quotes were reported to have been recorded by news agency ANI, according to the aforementioned Indian Express report.
Earlier on Wednesday, Shami was excluded from the list of players who’s central contracts were renewed by the BCCI. However, it is understood that the BCCI will make a call on whether to renew Shami’s contract depending on the developments surrounding the charges imposed on him
