It was all too easy in the end for the hosts as England succumbed to a 10-wicket loss in the first Test of the 2017-18 Ashes at the Gabba.
After a dominant Day 4 where Australia bowled out the visitors for just 195 and scored 114 runs without the loss of any wickets, the opening pair of Cameron Bancroft and David Warner chased down the remaining 66 runs in just 16 overs in the first session of Day 5, securing the hosts a massive 10-wicket victory and take a 1-0 lead in the series. After a closely fought three days, the hosts brought their A game in the final two days of the Test and established their supremacy at the Gabba, extending their unbeaten streak at the venue since 1998.

A quality side is one that can stick with their opposition and then seize the moment. @CricketAus hung in for 3 days & it was 4th day where their pounced. Biggest test for them awaits at Adelaide Oval #Ashes

Australia has a more potent bowling attack. And English batting is a little frail. That decided the fate of the game in the end. Love Test cricket. #Ashes

Last time Australia won an #Ashes Test by 10 wickets was in Sydney, 2007 to wrap up a 5-0 whitewash

Superb win by Australia, only took control of the match on Day 4, it now appears they’ve thrashed England. Highlights – Smith’s 💯 & Bancroft’s debut, impressive character! #Ashes
