Breaking: WWE releases Austin Aries

In the wee hours of today morning, the WWE fans in India were treated to some shocking news. Austin Aries, who competed on NXT and was brought to Monday Night RAW, was released from WWE.

Aries is considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the world today. The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion signed with WWE last year, and competed on NXT. “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” got injured late last year, and returned to in – ring competition during 205 Live earlier this year.

Austin Aries reportedly asked for his release

It is being reported that Aries had asked for his release, as he was unhappy with his role in the promotion. WWE posted the following couple of hours ago, on wwe.com

“WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Austin Aries. WWE wishes Aries the best in all of his future endeavors.”

Aries unsuccessfully challenged the WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Neville at WrestleMania 33 for the title. Austin then faced Neville at Payback and Extreme Rules, with the latter being a Submission match.

Aries was unable to capture the WWE Cruiserweight title at Extreme Rules, and has rarely featured on WWE programming since. After the news broke about Austin Aries’ release, he took to Twitter, and posted tweets which insinuated that he had asked for his release.

Austin Aries had previously worked for Ring of Honor (ROH), a likely destination for “A Double” in the near future. New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) will also be interested in bringing Aries to the promotion, after their recent success in the United States with their G 1 Special.

Global Force Wrestling (f.k.a Impact Wrestling f.k.a TNA) is also a viable option for Austin Aries. Considering there has been a change in management, Jeff Jarrett would be interested in signing up the former champion. However, it remains to be seen if Austin Aries would be keen on returning to the promotion.

Stay tuned for more updates.
