As seen on last week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, The New Day’s open challenge was answered by The Revival. Dash and Dawson beat the former tag team champions, and later viciously attacked Kofi Kingston. While the fallout wasn’t seen as anything out of the ordinary, it is now being reported that Kofi Kingston has undergone an ankle surgery.
WWE.com broke the news few minutes ago, revealing that Kofi injured his right ankle during the assault after the match. It was reported that Kofi heard a “crack”, and had to undergo surgery. Kofi is expected to be out of action for several weeks.
Below is the official statement released by the organisation.
Kofi Kingston sustained an injury to his right ankle during The Revival’s post-match assault last Monday night on Raw, and WWE.com can confirm that the former Raw Tag Team Champion will be out of action for several weeks.
“During the attack by The Revival, Kofi injured his right ankle and heard a crack, and was unable to put weight on his leg following the attack,” WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com. “Further evaluation and an MRI revealed that the attack had caused fragments of bone to break off the ankle bone (talus), requiring arthroscopic surgery to remove the bone chips from the damaged joint.”
Kingston’s injury leaves The New Day down a man just before the Raw and SmackDown LIVE locker rooms undergo a Superstar Shake-up. How it might impact The New Day has yet to be determined, but stay with WWE.com and tune in to Raw tonight at 8/7 C for more on this developing story and the Superstar Shake-up.
Kofi will miss the Superstar Shake – up on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW and SmackDown Live. WWE had recently teased the possibility of The New Day getting split during the “mini draft”, and it remains to be seen if Kofi’s injury changes any of those plans.
There is no definite timeline for Kofi’s return, but Kofi is expected to be back in a couple of months.
