AB de Villiers sidelined with finger injury, will miss first three ODIs

South African batsman AB de Villiers has been ruled out of the first three ODIs against India with a finger injury.

De Villiers sustained the injury to his right index finger during the third Test against India in Johannesburg and will require two weeks to make a complete recovery. He is expected to be fit for the fourth match at the Wanderers – the pink ODI for which he is one of the ambassadors.

The selectors will not be naming a replacement, therefore the squad has been reduced to 14 players. He could be replaced in the playing XI by Khaya Zondo or Test opener Aiden Markram.

The six-match ODI series starts on Thursday (February 1) in Durban.
