South African batsman AB de Villiers announced on Twitter that he would not be turning out for Royal Challengers Bangalore in tonight’s IPL match against Gujarat Lions tonight, being played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
De Villiers, who is a key component of the RCB side said that he would not be playing “due to injury”, and wished captain Virat Kohli and the rest of the team well ahead of the match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have won only one of their five matches so far, with captain Virat Kohli saying that all the players need to do better collectively. Fast bowler Tymal Mills is also injured, and the team is grappling with the indifferent form of Shane Watson. The Australian is in contention to return to the squad, along with other options such as Travis Head and Chris Gayle. It will be interesting to see who the team opts for in place of de Villiers.
De Villiers had missed Bangalore’s first two games this season, and had performed well for the team ever since he recovered for the third match. RCB would be hoping that his latest lay-off does not last for too long, as he would be required in what is a long IPL season.
