A shimmy down the track, hands moving at the speed of lightning and BAM! – the next thing we know, the ball is about 10 rows into the stands. That is how Brendon McCullum has entertained fans across the globe with his absolutely unique, fearless and absorbing style of cricket.
As Baz calls it quits on his illustrious ODI career, he has surely left the game of cricket richer than when he started playing. The range of shots that he demonstrated with brilliant execution, which never looked ‘ugly’ but always well timed and rather elegant will be something that fans will miss the most. He has also been a very good wicket-keeper for New Zealand over the years. With his gutsy, instinctive and inspirational captaincy, he almost led the Kiwis to the 2015 World Cup title where the brilliant Black Caps were undefeated right till the final where they faltered against trans-Tasmanian rivals Australia. Brendon McCullum with 6083 ODI runs and 200 ODI sixes in just 228 innings (in 260 ODIs) has surely has left behind a legacy which will never be forgotten.
Adieu, Brendon McCullum!
