The 10 most read stories on The Ring Side View in 2016

It’s been an interesting 2016 at The Ring Side View. We haven’t yet completed a year, but since when has that stopped anyone from creating an end-of-the-year list? Before we begin, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the articles that made it to the top 10. I thought this list would be dominated by Kohli, with a sprinkling of Dhoni and a few T20 World Cup stories. Turns out Indian sports fans are interested in more than just big names.

10 – My All Time Test XI

All-Time XI’s always generate plenty of debate, and this list was no different. I’d picked Ashwin before the home series started, and received some criticism for that pick. Halfway through the season, the criticism has died down, and most people now believe the ICC Cricketer of 2016 deserves a spot. Read more about it HERE

9 – Donald Trump’s best moments in the WWE

Donald Trump is the undisputed World Heavyweight Clickbait Champion. He even manages to worm his way into a Top 10 most read articles list on an Indian sports website.

8 – Wasim Akram explains the drastic drop in Irfan Pathan’s pace

Irfan Pathan hasn’t played an international game in years, but he continues to capture the imagination of the cricket-watching public. In this article, Wasim Akram analyzes Irfan’s drop in form.

7 – Tendulkar, Warne, Laxman and Rahane talk about MS Dhoni

Nothing complicated about this one. Three legends of the game and one current Team India member talk about MS Dhoni on his birthday. Tendulkar and Laxman have played under Dhoni, and Warne has played against Dhoni in the IPL, so each of these cricketers brings a different perspective.

6 – Legends speak on Dhoni’s captaincy

This is part 2 of #7 on this list. In this article, Warne, Tendulkar and Laxman speak about the factors that make Dhoni a great captain.

5 – Shane Warne on the Kohli vs Tendulkar debate

The Kohli vs Tendulkar debate. As simple as it gets!

4 – Temba Bavuma’s stunning run-out to dismiss David Warner

One of the greatest run-outs I have ever seen. I’ve seen this clip at least 7 – 8 times myself.

3 – Mohammad Shahzad’s unbelievable six to finish a BPL match.

An Afghanistan cricketer hitting a six in a BPL game is #3 on our most-read articles of 2016. Cricket never fails to amaze me.

2 – Best Reactions as Mohammad Shami breaks Alastair Cook’s off-stump.

India’s known for (often quite literally!) worshiping its batsmen, but there’s nothing that thrills an Indian fan more than a fast bowler knocking over an opposition batsman’s stumps. It’s the reason why we still remember Venkatesh Prasad vs Aamer Sohail, and why this is the #2 most-read article of 2016.

1 – Sachin Tendulkar’s CV at age 15

We released an old Tendulkar CV on his birthday. It pushed our servers to the hilt, and single-handedly generated an entire month’s worth of traffic. I never get tired of reading it, and judging by the response this article received, plenty of other people share this sentiment!
